FATHER and SON

released August 2020 ,

Ric Halstead Soprano Saxophone, Sue Moxon, Piano

Father and Son' was improvised by Sue Moxon and myself on February 13th 2020. It has a deep emotional meaning for me on many levels - musically I feel it captures the essence of music - not at a technical or intellectual level, but in its depth of feeling, wonder and love.
It is of course dedicated to my son James. To me it captures the intangible and really indescribable feeling of love from a father to his son. Music can capture that feeling more eloquently than words!
The cover by Sue Moxon shows a photo of me at the age of 23 on the left and here we are fifty years later with a photo of my son James on the right who turns 23 next month. I sincerely hope that the music touches you as much as it does me, Ric Halstead.

Every single day of April 2020 Linsey Pollak composed / improvised, recorded and uploaded a new piece of music to Bandcamp to create a 30 track album called 'APRIL'. On certain tracks Linsey invited people to play with him. I was lucky enough to be invited to contribute and due to covid19 recorded independently in my studio and then sent tracks to Linsey.
Track 22 - 22nd of April (sop sax + Sue Moxon on keyboard)
I am joined on this track by Sue Moxon (in photo), or maybe I should say that I'm joining her, as Sue recorded 6 different improvisations on keyboard and I chose one of those to add soprano sax. It's a slow and quite minimal ambient piece. Thanks Sue for collaborating with me on this track.
